Two people died in northern California when a single-engine plane they were travelling in crashed, authorities said Sunday.
The passengers were aboard a four-seat Beech 35 Bonanza when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff, sparking a fire outside a South Lake Tahoe home, according to ABC News.
Maja Smith, an aviation accident investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, said the plane only contained two people. She noted that the victims' identities, as well as the plane's destination, was unknown and still under investigation.
Ginger Nicolay-Davis, a real estate agent who manages the house, said two people and a dog inside the house were unharmed during the incident, later saying the house had major fire damage following the crash, but the fire could have been worse since the house was in a heavily-wooded area.
"They were sitting there relaxing in the living room and they heard what sounded like a tree had fallen," she said, according to the Associated Press. "They assumed a tree had taken out a power line."
The Federal Aviation Administration, as well as the National Transportation Board, are investigating. What caused the crash is still unknown.
