Sunshine Skyway Bridge: Waterspout Appears, Flips Over Truck (VIDEO)

The Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa, Fla., encountered a waterspout Sunday morning, which greatly damaged a U.S. Postal Service contractor's tractor-trailer rig.

Florida Highway Patrol say that the driver of the truck, Randall Leaver, 56, was overtaken by the waterspout as it approached the Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay on Interstate 275, USA Today reports.

A video of the incident went viral. It shows how the truck flipped over after the waterspout touched down on the bridge. The truck was then flipped a second time due to the strength of the storm. Leaver remained inside the entire time, and got out of the incident uninjured.

A waterspout is a tornado that occurs over water. This particular waterspout appeared around 9:50 a.m. over the ocean off Florida's west coast, moving rapidly toward the bridge, hitting Leaver's truck, before finally dissipating, Daily Mail reports.

No one else was injured during the incident, but highway patrol say that a nearby construction site was damaged, a boat was and several road signs had been knocked over, The Inquistr reports.

The narrow bridge measure 21,000 feet long and has a cable-stayed main span.
