As a part of Google's newest update for the Android and iOS Street View apps, users can now explore the streets in 360-degree virtual reality (VR) using Google Cardboard, the company's cheap VR headset, according to Digital Trends.
Although stereoscopic VR has actually been hidden in the Android Street View app since 2014, this marks its official launch and now has an icon that appears at the top-right of the screen, according to Wired UK.
Since Google's Street View images are not 3D, it will not be true VR, but users will still have a new way of exploring cities and landmarks around the world, according to BBC News.
Google also announced on Monday that the Cardboard app will be increasing in its availability, with compatibility planned for more than 100 countries in 39 different languages on both the Android and iOS.
"With more than 15 million installs of Cardboard apps from Google Play, we're excited to bring VR to even more people around the world," said Brandon Wuest of Google.
Due to its low price and accessibility, Google's stereoscopic VR Cardboard product has become very popular and the company looks to continue to build upon its capabilities. Other companies are also following suit, with cardboard goggles now available from Mattel and Goggle Tech.
