Denzel Washington is taking a little time off from his movie star career to direct an episode of "Grey's Anatomy."
Washington will direct the ninth episode of the ABC medical drama, currently in its 12th season, according to TVLine. Production will start later this month and the episode will premiere during November sweeps.
The 60-year-old actor has previously directed the films "Antwone Fisher" (2002) and "The Great Debaters" (2007), which he both starred in. This will be his first time directing for television.
Washington isn't the only Oscar-winning actor to direct for the small screen this fall. His "Glory" co-star Morgan Freeman directed the premiere episode of CBS's "Madam Secretary," which he executive produces, and played a small role as the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Washington will not appear in his "Grey's Anatomy" episode. Audiences can see him on screen next year in Antoine Fuqua's remake of the 1960 classic, "The Magnficent Seven," itself a remake of the Akira Kurosawa film, "Samurai Seven."
"Grey's Anatomy" airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
