Bernie Sanders came across as an unusual ally when he spoke in favor of Hillary Clinton and against the email controversy at the Democratic debate.
Asked by moderator Anderson Cooper about her use of a personal server during her tenure as secretary of state, Clinton said: "I've taken responsibility for it. I did say it was a mistake. I have been as transparent as I know to be, turning over 55,000 pages of my e-mails, asking that they be made public," reports TIME.
"Let me say something that may not be great politics. I think that the Secretary is right. The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails!" Sanders said, defending Clinton. His retort was met by a standing ovation by the audience, as Clinton replied, "Me too, me too," reports Business Insider.
Sanders then took aim at the media which has been - according to him - over-hyping the issue. "I go around the country, talk to a whole lot of people. The middle class in this country is collapsing. We have 27 million people living in poverty. We have massive wealth and income inequality; our trade policies have cost us millions of decent jobs. The American people want to know whether we're gonna have a democracy or an oligarchy as a result of Citizens United. Enough of the emails - let's talk about the real issues facing America," he said, according to Raw Story.
