Josh Gad and Ryan Dixon will be writing the script of a biopic about professional wrestler George Raymond Wagner, also known by his ring name "Gorgeous George," currently being developed by WWE Studios and Robert Halmi Jr.'s Great Point Media.
The film will follow the life and career of Wagner, one of the stars of the "First Golden Age" of pro-wrestling (the '40s and '50s), whose persona inspired the likes of Muhammad Ali, James Brown and helped bring sports into the TV age. Wagner was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2010, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television," said Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios, according to Variety. "Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story."
Gad recently wrapped up production on Disney's live-action "Beauty And The Beast" starring Emma Watson and Luke Evans and is next set to play Roger Ebert opposite Will Ferrell in "Russ And Roger Go Beyond," as HNGN previously reported.
