Israel deployed hundreds of additional soldiers in a number of cities Wednesday in what is seen as yet another effort to address the escalating unrest that is gripping the country, which has already claimed the lives of eight Israelis and almost 30 Palestinians, according to Al Arabiya News.
The violence has already been escalating for a month, with a number of Palestinians engaging in a series of deadly attacks against Israelis. CCTV footage revealed the shocking actions of a Palestinian man who drove his car into a bus stop in Jerusalem and then proceeded to hack the wounded in the area with a cleaver.
Two Israelis were killed in a fatal incident just 20 minutes before the hacking incident Tuesday, while 10 others were injured after a couple of Palestinian men shot and stabbed passengers on a bus, reported CBS News.
However, despite the additional security measures issued Wednesday, violence still reigned in Jerusalem's streets. Police state that a 70-year-old woman was wounded in a knife attack as she boarded a bus in Jerusalem's central bus station.
Additionally, police shot and killed a 19-year-old Palestinian from Hebron after he allegedly attempted to stab police officers outside Jerusalem's Old City.
The violence in the area erupted and escalated a month ago after rumors emerged that Israelis were plotting to take over the Temple Mount, a holy site for Jews. The hilltop compound is also the site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third-holiest shrine.
