The Originals Season Premiere Review: Find Out Which Questions Are Finally Answered; Marcel's Plan for Klaus

“The Originals” season premiere, told from Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) point of view, was the third time we’ve seen some of the same footage leading up to the beginning of the “The Vampire Diaries” spinoff. Nevertheless, “The Originals” still makes you want to tune in.

First off, Julie Plec’s new show has many of the things that make for a good drama. There are two major opposing forces in the form of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) battling for the control of New Orleans. Davis and Morgan do a good job of playing the big bad vampires that are involved in a mental chess game to gain power. The show also has a myriad of potential love interests between all the characters. Finally there are a bunch of questions even after three episodes (well I guess it’s more like one and a half) ranging from Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) strength to Sophie’s plan (Danielle Pineda) for Marcel.

Thursday’s season premiere answered some of the questions that fans had coming into the season. For example we now know why Klaus can’t simply kill Marcel. (The witches need him for something.) We also know a little bit about Marcel’s plan to protect himself from Klaus. (His witch Davina is ridiculously powerful.) Finally, we know at least one of the ways Sophie is planning to protect herself from the originals. (She’s linked herself to Hayley so whatever happens to her happens to Hayley.)

“The Originals” could have the following of “The Vampire Diaries” fans since the fans are already invested in the characters of Klaus, Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Elijah. However, there is more than enough to keep new fans interested.

“The Originals” airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
