Magic Johnson Statue On Michigan State Campus Vandalized (PHOTO)

The statue of the Earvin "Magic" Johnson located on the Michigan State campus was vandalized before Saturday's game against the University of Michigan. The statue of the basketball icon, located in East Lansing outside Breslin Center, was smeared with yellow paint with the letter "M" together with words "BEAT STATE" on it and could possible be done by Michigan fans, according to the Associated Press.

Several locations on the Michigan State campus were vandalized as well, including a sidewalk in Munn field and some of the steps in the student union building, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The school's clean-up committee resolved to remove the paint using a toothbrush.

"We are going to be out here for a while," Tracy Harris, a utility staff for MSU, said as she cleaned up the statue, according to Mlive.

"This statue has so many details on it, its going to take a long time to get him cleaned up," Harris added.

A similar instance happened last year when a block "M" was painted green on University of Michigan's campus where the letter "S" and "U" were added in white, according to the New York Daily News.
