Spencer Stone Released From Hospital After Knife Attack

Spencer Stone, the U.S. airman who, along with his friends, became an international hero after thwarting a terror attack aboard a train while vacationing in Europe, has been discharged from the hospital.

Stone was injured in a brawl outside a Sacramento pub on Oct. 8 while trying to defend a woman who was involved in an altercation.

"It looked like Spencer was defending her. I figured it was a girlfriend thing, I saw this girl get hit and then the whole fight, I figured it was a girlfriend dispute or something like that. I thought the girl was with him the whole time, the way he looked like he was defending her. And then she ends up leaving with the guys [who stabbed him]," said eyewitness Eric Cain, according to the Daily Mail.

Cain was on duty at the A&P Liquor store at 21st and K Street, as previously reported by HNGN.

While at hospital, Stone's friend and co-hero, Alek Skarlatos, also came to look him up. Stone was glad to have made a quick recovery.

"Thanks, also, to my amazing family and friends for their love and support. And, thanks to everyone who has sent encouragement during this challenging time. I'm focused now on healing and recovering and look forward to the next part of my journey," Stone said in a statement as he was leaving the UC Davis Medical Center. He also conveyed his gratitude to the first responders and the team at UC Davis Medical Center for caring for him, according to Fox News.

Stone's mother, Joyce Eskel, also conveyed her gratitude and thanks. "Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff and providers at UC Davis Medical Center. I'm especially grateful to [trauma surgeons] Dr. Ellie Curtis, Dr. Garth Utter, the entire trauma team and the ICU nurses who treated Spencer so well," she said, according to People.

Stone and his friends had been honored by President Barack Obama for their courage in France, and you can read more about the meeting here at HNGN.
