Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert is currently on the shelf after having surgery on his wrist. Shumpert ruptured his Extensor Carpi Ulnaris sheath in his right wrist while trying to finish an alley-oop and he is expected to miss 3-4 months of action with the injury. In his spare time Shumpert has decided to pick up a microphone and remix one of the hottest songs currently on the airwaves and that is Drake's "Hotline Bling," according to Dan Rhys of XXL Magazine.
This is far from the first time that Shumpert has released a remix to a buzzing song but he is actually a pretty good rapper. This particular remix though finds Shumpert straying away from rapping and instead he uses melody throughout the majority of the song. Shumpert unsurprisingly makes many references to basketball and the NBA and he changes "I know when that hotline bling" to "I know you love that highlight reel" over the extremely catchy beat.
One of the highlights from the song is a line where he says "I part like I'm Moses, rap like a prophet. The whole league wanna rap now, look what I started." Shumpert wasn't the first NBA player to ever try his hand at rap but there are a lot of current players that have tried it out. Damian Lillard is actually on the verge of releasing a mixtape, while other players like Tony Parker, Metta World Peace and Lou Williams are among others who have tried their hand at rapping. Shumpert and Lillard are probably in a close competition for the best of the bunch but Metta World Peace actually tried to get the Cavaliers guard a deal with Interscope earlier this year although it has not yet happened.
As for the song Shumpert remixed, Drake's version is actually a remix itself of a song by D.R.A.M. called "Cha Cha." Right now everything that Drake has been touching is turning to gold though and his version of the song is all the way up to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. If the song were to make it to number one it would be his first solo single to ever be number one and it seems like he is well on his way to getting that honor. Right now The Weeknd's "The Hills" is number one but "Hotline Bling" has been trending up and could get there very soon.
Back to Shumpert, he said at the end of the song that he is getting his cast off tomorrow so that has to be good news for you Cleveland Cavaliers fans out there. Shumpert signed a four year $40 million deal this offseason with Cleveland and was expected to be their starting shooting guard so they would love to him back as soon as possible.
