Female Suicide Bombers Kill 12 In Nigerian Village, Boko Haram Involvement Suspected

Two suspected Boko Haram female suicide bombers blew themselves up in northeast Nigeria, killing 12 people, including three children, and injuring several others. The suspected Boko Haram attack took place in the Dar village of Nigeria's Adamawa province Saturday.

"A large number of gunmen invaded the village, forcing resident to flee to nearby bush. Two female suicide bombers disguised as fleeing villagers, detonated explosives in the bush where many people were hiding, killing 12 persons," said resident Maina Ularamu, according to Nation Online.

Nigerian military Friday said it had foiled a suspected Boko Haram suicide attack on a military base in Maiduguri. Soldiers posted at the base reportedly shot dead the female bomber.

"The lady bomber just entered the gate without going through any check. She even refused to answer when our troops at the gate question her mission. It was then they suspected she might be out for evil plan. Some of our men quickly moved away to prevent the bomber from running into them and fired a shot at her leg to decapitate her but surprisingly, she exploded," a resident told the Sun.

Nigerian military, which has inflicted serious damage to Boko Haram in recent months, said the use of suicide bombers, particularly teenage girls, was a sign of the jihadist group's desperation.

"They are looking for every opportunity to hit back, which is why they have resorted to soft-target attacks on mosques and markets, and such attacks on a military base is intended to show the terrorists are still strong," a senior official told Vanguard Nigeria.
