Boston mob leader James "Whitey" Bulger's girlfriend pleaded not guilty to contempt charges after she refused to bear witness starting December 2014 until last month with regards to details of who aided them during their 16 years of hiding.
Catherine Greig sent her not guilty plea Monday to a U.S. Federal Magistrate Judge. Kevin Reddington, her lawyer, said her case will continue Nov. 19, according to People.
Sixty-four-year-old Greig is currently in the fourth year of her eight-year sentence in Waseca, Minn. She pleaded guilty in 2012 to identity fraud and harboring a fugitive, according to Reuters.
According to prosecutors, Greig had plenty of chances to flee from Bulger while they were on the run. Despite these opportunities, they were able to hide from authorities using false identities. They were caught in 2011 in California while posing as retirees from Chicago. Authorities found $800,000 in cash and 30 weapons in their apartment, according to Fox News.
Mob leader Bulger, 86, was already convicted in 2013 for ordering the murder of 11 individuals in the 1970s and 1980s. He was convicted in 1995 and placed on the FBI's most wanted list. The former leader of the infamous "Winter Hill" gang is now serving a life sentence at a federal penitentiary in Florida.
