Ahmed Mohamed: Teen Arrested Over Clock Mistaken For Bomb Is Moving To Qatar (TWEETS)

Ahmed Mohamed, the teenager who made news when he was arrested after his homemade clock was mistaken for a bomb, is moving to Qatar with his family.

"After careful consideration of all the generous offers received, we would like to announce that we have accepted a kind offer from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) for Ahmed to join the prestigious QF Young Innovators Program, which reflects the organization's on-going dedication to empowering young people and fostering a culture of innovation and creativity," the family said Tuesday, according to The Washington Post.

President Obama personally invited the 14-year-old to the White House via Twitter last month after he was accused of building a bomb and handcuffed before police found that the "bomb" was nothing but a digital clock the young innovator built himself, as HNGN previously reported.

Ahmed was also invited to the "Astronomy Night" at the White House by Obama. "IT WAS AMAZING, AND A HONOR MEETING ‪#PRESIDENT ‪#OBAMA!!! ‪#YOY ‪#THEWHITEHOUSE," he posted on Twitter on Tuesday. "SO HAPPY, I CANT BELIEVE THAT I MET THE #president of THE #UNITEDSTATES!!!" he tweeted shortly after.

Ahmed's 19-year-old sister Eyman said that the attention Ahmed has received after his arrest has made the teenager not want to go to school in the U.S. "It's been really hard. Everything happens for a reason, but there's so much stuff being said that isn't true," she said, referring to conspiracy theories on the Internet claiming that Ahmed made the clock in order to gain publicity.

Anthony Bond, a close family friend and the founder of the Irving, Texas, chapter of the NAACP, said that the family made their decision to leave the U.S. within the last 24 hours.

He added that the family will be moving to Qatar next week so that Ahmed can begin school at the Qatar Foundation, where he will receive a full scholarship.
