Baxter Tempe Lake Drowning: Police Say Father Deliberately Drove Wife And Children Into Lake In Apparent Murder-Suicide

A father deliberately drove his car, with his wife and three children in it, into a lake in Arizona over the weekend in an apparent murder-suicide, police said Monday, People reported.

Glenn Baxter, along with his wife Danica and their children Reighn, Nazyiah and Zariyah, died early Sunday morning when the family SUV went straight into the Tempe Town Lake.

Glenn, Danica and Zariyah died moments after they were taken to a local hospital. Nazyiah, who was initially hospitalized and listed under "extreme critical condition," died shortly thereafter, as HNGN previously reported.

However, police have revealed that the crash was not an accident, based on a surveillance footage they obtained from a nearby condominium complex.

Police spokesperson Lt. Mike Pooley revealed in a news conference Monday night that Glenn intentionally drove the car into the lake, the Associated Press reported. He says that Glenn got out of the vehicle, walked towards the lake then went back inside and drove "at a high rate of speed" before hitting a curb and flipping over into the water.

"This was not an accident. Mr. Baxter took deliberate action. It's absolutely horrific what happened to those little kids and their mother," Pooley said.

It has been revealed that Glenn and Danica had separated, with the latter having already prepared stacks of papers for divorce, AZ Central reported.
