In their brief time together, Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove of “Cruel Intentions” managed to conceive a child, Bash Casey, who is now 16 years old and the focus of a new reboot series based on the 1999 film.
NBC has given a script plus penalty commitment to the drama series from the original film’s director-writer Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz as well as Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, who staged “The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions,” according to Deadline.
The new show is set in the present day and follows the rags-to-riches story of Bash Casey, the son of the late Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette (Reese Witherspoon). A full description obtained by Deadline follows:
“Upon finding his late father’s journal, Bash learns of the family legacy he didn’t know existed. In search of answers, he trades his small-town Kansas upbringing for a scholarship to the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy in San Francisco and soon finds himself in a world of sex, money, power, and corruption he never could have imagined.”
Kumble based his movie screenplay on the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses and will write the TV script with Rosin and Ross. Sony Pictures TV will produce the show alongside Original Film and AMBI.

YouTube Launches Subscription Service, YouTube Red
The popular video service announced on Wednesday that it will launch a new membership called YouTube Red on Oct. 28 allowing its subscribers to enjoy YouTube videos without ads, save videos to watch offline on phones and tablets and play videos in the background for $9.99 a month.
Starting next year, YouTube Red will also provide members-only access to new, original shows and movies from YouTube’s biggest creators including PewDiePie, the Fine Brothers and Lilly Singh.
Ballerina Misty Copeland Producing Dance Drama Series for Fox
The first African-American ballerina to become the American Ballet Theatre’s principal dancer is developing a TV drama set in the world of dance with promising writer Tracy Oliver. The untitled project for Fox will follow “a young, hip and diverse group of aspiring dancers as they fiercely compete for places in a top ballet company,” according to Deadline.
Hulu Renews “Casual” for a Second Season
Hulu has renewed its original series starring Michaela Watkins and Tommy Dewey. Watkins’ plays a newly divorced woman who lives with her brother (Dewey) and together, they coach each other through the complicated world of dating and raising her teenage daughter.

QUANTICO: The ABC freshmen drama has cast Anne Heche to guest star as Dr. Susan Langdon, a former FBI agent and medical examiner who is now a bestselling author and pundit, according to TVLine. She comes back to Quantico to teach a seminar on how to identify and catch serial murderers. Her debut will come later this fall.
THE MIDDLE: Actress Cheryl Hines’ is headed to the ABC comedy as an entrepreneurial dentist, according to TVLine. She will play Dr. Sommer Samuelson in the episode titled “The Convention,” which does not have an air date yet.
Hines character is described as “the head of Smile Superstars International, a dental franchise of which Frankie’s (Patricia Heaton) dental office is now a part. A beautiful, captivating and inspiring force of nature, Dr. Samuelson is one part business woman and a thousand parts motivational speaker, as Frankie and her boss Dr. Goodwin (Jack McBrayer) soon come to find our while attending the company’s bi-annual conference and workshop.”
EMERALD CITY: The upcoming NBC series has found its Wizard of Oz, casting Vincent D’Onfrio as the “enigmatic leader of Emerald City” who is “a man of science in a world of magic, he rules through inspiration, fear and a tenuous accord with the grand witches,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 10-episode series centers on 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) and her K9 police dog who are transported to another world - a mystical land in great peril, where an all-powerful Wizard has forbidden magic and rules over the many kingdoms. In this fabled Land of Oz, lethal warrriors roam, wicked witches plot in the shadows, and a young girl from Kansas becomes the headstrong hero who holds the fate of their world in her hands.
