Howard Stern said that he "hated every bit" of being on "America's Got Talent," the popular talent competition show that Stern judged for four years. The radio host went on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Friday to explain why he initially took the job, how he came to hate it and why he decided the leave the show.
"You know, here I am, Fart Man, and I would be on 'America's Got Talent,' and suddenly it would be interesting to see me juxtapose with a family show," explained Stern. "And that was fun. But it was torturous. I hated every bit of it."
Stern said that he initially thought it would be funny to go on a network television show, but hated how he looked on TV. He told Kimmel that he bought $100,000 worth of new clothing from John Varvatos, got someone to try and tame his hair and even started working out! Stern said he went through all this effort and still hated the way he appeared on the show.
"I turn on the TV each week and I wanna throw up," confessed Stern. "Because I'm putting in all of this work for my look, to look good, and after all of that work, I still look like a nightmare. I just didn't like it."
Stern said that the appearance of his fellow judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Mel B. did not make the situation better.
"Here's a guy, he has no hair, he's in his 60s, and he's better looking than I am after my $100,000 wardrobe," Stern said of Mandel. "So the whole thing was rather depressing."
"I am sitting there next to Heidi Klum who is a supermodel and Mel B., who's no slouch, and Nick Cannon is walking out in outfits, and I want to fit in," Stern added, "I wanted to look good!"
Last week it was announced that Simon Cowell would be replacing Stern on the popular talent competition show.
