Cryotherapy Death: Woman Freezes To Death In Cryotherapy Chamber

One woman died after exposing herself to a cryotherapy treatment, freezing at temperatures at -240 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Fox News. Chelsea Ake-Salvacion of Las Vegas, got into a cryochamber unassisted and froze to death in a matter of seconds, according to officials.

"I do know that she was alone closing the shop up, and then did go into the machine and apparently did not turn off," said Salvacion's friend, Shae-Lynn Bee.

Twenty-four year-old Salvacion, originally from Hawaii, was the manager of Rejuvenice, the salon that utilized the icy treatments, according to Fox5NY.

Many salon and spas across the country are beginning to use the technology. One company, KryoLife, has taken to Facebook to insure the safety of their product to anxious consumers.

"We are sad to learn about the passing of Chelsea Ake, the store manager at Rejuvenice," read the company's Facebook page. "Due to this tragic event, KryoLife would like our clients to be rest assured that we use the same protocols and time constraints presently used in Europe, and that have been developed and implemented over 25 years of experience and ongoing medical research."

"Our technicians are attentive to the comfort and well-being of our clients during the treatment and afterwards, which is the key to your safety," it continued.

The cryo-technique has supposedly been used for centuries in the medical field, used even now to help athletes heal from injuries, according to the Independent.
