Authorities are searching for a suspect who shot a police officer early Wednesday morning in Beaver County, Pa.
Police confirm that the shooting occurred at around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Beaver and Harmony Roads in Harmony Township, according to WTAE-TV.
The incident reportedly happened when the officer, who remains unnamed, was called to the area for a report of a suspicious person. It's believed that the officer saw a suspicious man and approached him, prompting the suspect to fire to at the officer, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Reports indicate that the officer was hit once or twice in the chest, but he was wearing a bulletproof vest, which stopped the bullets, reported CBS Pittsburgh. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Police were searching parked cars, wooded areas and other places where they believe the suspect may be hiding. The officer says that he fired three to five shots at the suspect and believes the suspect may currently be injured.

This incident comes as officers report feeling under siege following reports of mistreatment at restaurants and shootings being perpetrated against them. The FBI has recently uncovered a plot by an extremist group who allegedly want to use Halloween as a means to trick and ambush responding police.
