Although it's only been a few weeks since Apple launched the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, noted analysts are already making confident predictions about the next installment in the company's flagship line up of smartphones, next year's impending iPhone 6.
Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald is on a tour of tech companies in China and Taiwan. Most recently he visited a tech supply chain vendor in China and apparently learned that a bigger iPhone is in the works, according to AppleInsider.
"Given today's meeting, we are confident that a larger iPhone (approximately five inches) will become a reality in 2014," White said.
The report from White comes along with those of "well-connected" analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities who indicated last month that the company is likely to launch a new iPhone with a screen between 4.5 and 5-inches sometime in 2014. He noted that Apple is less likely to use anything larger than 5-inches because it wants to ensure that all of its iPhones can be used with just one hand. In addition, others have speculated that Apple is weary about switching to a phablet device because it doesn't want to look intimidated by its rival Apple.
"Phablets" have become popular since Samsung started developing them with high-end smartphone technology. The new Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 5.7-inch display. Other rumors from noted analyst Peter Misek who, based on meetings with suppliers, put out a report to investors on Monday saying he believes the new device will come with a 4.8-inch screen.
Although nothing has been confirmed by Apple, many of those making predictions on the iPhone 6's larger screen have a decent track record of determining what Apple will do before it does it.
With the larger display iPhone looking more and more like a reality, it's time to start asking if you'd be interested in an iPhone with a larger, phablet-sized display. If the 2014 iPhone 6 comes with a larger display will you be disappointed or relieved that Apple is joining the growing trend of larger screen phones? Comment and share your thoughts below.
