West Indies, which lost a two-match Test series to Sri Lanka last week, needs to win the ODI series opener in order to regain confidence.
Skipper Jason Holder praised his bowlers for their performances in Test series. He, however, said his side was let down by the batsmen in the Test.
"Hopefully our batsmen can gain some of that confidence and momentum which they've put there," said Holder, according to Stabroeknews.
"Our bowlers have come up trumps for us. I thought our bowlers did a very, very good job in this Test series. We got ten wickets in the first Test match in Galle - we only got one chance to bowl - and we got 20 wickets here which is what we've asked of the bowlers. They keep doing what we ask of them every time we ask the them to put up their hands and do a job for us, they come up [trumps] for us," he added.
All rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who smashed a century in a tour game against Sri Lanka Board President XI on Oct. 2, said he would continue to play with aggressive approach.
"It's just about me taking my same process and same method into the ODIs if selected. One thing myself and Russell spoke a lot about is that the way we play won't always come off, sometimes you will get out and it will seem like a stupid shot, but we will have days when we can take attacks apart and do what we did today," the 27-year-old batsman said, according to Barbados Today.
Sri Lanka named three newcomers batsman Shehan Jayasuriya, spin bowler Jeffrey Vandersay and all-rounder Dhanushka Gunathilaka and recalled batsman Lahiru Thirimanne for the ODI series, according to Indian Express.
