The Cleveland Browns have reportedly been in discussions about trading two top-tier NFL lineman in tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The Browns aren't only putting two of their best offensive linemen on the block, as linebacker Barkevious Mingo is reportedly being shopped around the league, according to Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot.
Thomas has no guaranteed money for 2016 but has a salary of $9 million. Thomas was a first round pick by the Browns in 2007 and is arguably one of the best tackles in the entire NFL. Mack was also a first round pick by the Browns, and has a no-trade clause in his contract. The Browns center would reportedly waive the no-trade clause if a playoff contender makes an offer, according to Rapoport.
The Browns are 2-5 on the season and already look to be rebuilding for next year. Cleveland is in need of many pieces, but their offensive line is one of their best strengths. The Browns organization is likely looking to improve positions in need by acquiring draft picks or players ready to play right now. It seems unlikely that the Browns would trade both Mack and Thomas, as they should keep one of their top-tier offensive linemen.
Mingo is another first round pick the Browns are reportedly shopping. Mingo has struggled to produce this season with just 12 combined tackles, but the talent is clearly there. In his rookie season in 2013, he recorded 42 combined tackles and five sacks. The Browns could part ways with Mingo, but it would have to be the right price.
Three former first round draft picks are on the block for the Browns, and it will be interesting to see which one of them is moved before the deadline Tuesday.
