A Palestinian teenager stabbed an 80-year-old Israeli woman in a spree that left several people wounded, before he was arrested by Israeli police, according to the International Business Times.
The elderly woman was left with a hip fracture and damage to blood vessels from the attack at a bus station in the town of Rishon Lezion, close to Tel Aviv. The attacker was identified as a 19-year-old Palestinian man from Hebron. He also managed to stab several other people before the public finally cornered him.
The attacker first stabbed a 40-year-old Israeli man on a bus, before he started running down a street where he came across the 80-year-old woman, whom he then stabbed, according to The Times Of Israel. A 24-year-old Israeli who was walking beside the elderly woman was also stabbed in the leg.
By then, the local residents had realized what was transpiring, so they gave chase to the attacker.
"The terrorist got off a bus, starting running around with a knife," said a resident who was among those that chased the attacker. "People shouted, 'There's a terrorist!' I and five other people saw him and chased after him. We [caught him] and started hitting him in the face [while he held a knife]. We tried to stop him, but he managed to stab two people."
The attacker sought refuge in a beauty shop, where he stabbed a female who then managed to escape and lock the door behind the attacker, who was trapped until found by police.
Tensions remain high between Israelis and Palestinians. Eleven Israelis have so far been killed - mostly by being stabbed - while 69 Palestinians have died by the hands of Israeli forces, according to Fox News.
The Israeli military said that of the 69 Palestinians killed, 44 of them were either killed while stabbing their victims, or attempting to do so.
