The Indianapolis Colts fired offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton on Tuesday night, according to Colts Reporter Kevin Bowen.
"Through the first eight weeks of the season, we felt our offense hasn't performed at the consistent level that we need. Because of this we've decided to go in a different direction and relieve Pep Hamilton of his duties as offensive coordinator," said head coach Chuck Pagano in a released statement, via Indianapolis Colts. "As head coach of this team, it's my responsibility to make sure I'm doing everything we can to put us in the best position to succeed. We thank Pep for his service to the team and wish him all the best."
The Colts fell to 3-5 for the season after losing to the Carolina Panthers in overtime 29-26. New offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski will look to turn this offense around, but he has a difficult task in his first week against the best defense in the league the Denver Broncos. Chudzinski joined the Colts last season and has experience running an offense, as he was the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers from 2011 till 2012.
The Colts currently have the 16th best offense in the NFL this season in terms of yards per game, and that is a big difference from last season when they finished the season third. Quarterback Andrew Luck has been reportedly playing with multiple fractured ribs, and his injuries this season have clearly affected his play. Chudzinski will look to get the offense rolling this weekend, but Indianapolis faces the toughest defense they have seen this year in Denver.
