The Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers have reportedly come to an agreement on a trade that will see tight end Vernon Davis head to the Broncos in exchange for three late-round draft picks. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal.
Per Schefter, San Francisco traded Davis and a 2016 seventh-round draft pick to the Broncos in exchange for Denver's sixth in 2016 and a sixth in 2017.
Broncos GM John Elway confirmed the move shortly thereafter on twitter.
While Owen Daniels had a good game for the Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning on Sunday night, Davis brings a proven track record of consistent success and an elite athleticism to the tight end position that Denver hasn't had since Julius Thomas left for the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.
With the Broncos running game showing signs of life against the Green Bay Packers, the Denver play action passing game took off. Considering Denver head coach Gary Kubiak's offense includes a lot of play action and designed roll outs, and considering the role Thomas played for Manning in the red zone the previous couple of seasons, Davis could be set to become a big contributor to the Broncos cause going forward.
