The New York Jets announced they will start quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to NFL reporter Jeremy Bergman. Meanwhile, Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is reportedly day-to-day with a foot sprain, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Fitzpatrick tore ligaments in his thumb against the Oakland Raiders, but was able to fully practice Wednesday. The Jets starting quarterback reportedly had no trouble taking snaps, and looks to be ready to go this weekend, according to Jets reporter Brian Costello.
Fitzpatrick is having one of his best seasons in the NFL, and has already thrown over 1,500 yards. The quarterback has 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions, and has shown through this season that he deserves the starting role. The Jets are 4-3 on the season, and will need Fitzpatrick to stay healthy if they wish to contend this season, as they will need a wildcard to likely make the playoffs.
While the Jets are glad to have Fitzpatrick back, the Colts are uncertain if Hilton will play this weekend.
Hilton reportedly had an MRI to check on his foot injury this week, and his status for this weekend is unknown, according to Colts reporter Mike Chappell. The Colts fell to 3-5 on the season after losing to the Carolina Panthers Monday night, but are still alive for the playoffs in a weak AFC South.
Indianapolis faces arguably its toughest test yet, as they play the top-ranked defense in the Denver Broncos. Hilton is the Colts' leading receiver halfway through the season, and will definitely be needed on the field against Denver. Hilton has 621 receiving yards this season with three touchdowns. The Colts star receiver has been targeted 20 times more than any other player on the Colts roster, and is an impact player. For right now, Hilton is day-to-day, and Indianapolis is hoping to have their star player on the field Sunday.
