WWE star Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury during a match with fellow pro-wrestler Kane in Dublin Wednesday night, Fox Sports reported. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion tore his right ACL and was forced to vacate his title, as his injury is expected to take six to nine months to heal.
"BREAKING: Last night in Dublin, IRL, @WWE Champion @WWERollins suffered right ACL/MCL/medial meniscus tears; out 6-9 months," ESPN host Jonathan Coachman and former WWE personality tweeted Thursday night. "@WWE to hold tournament at #SurvivorSeries to crown a new #WWE World Heavyweight Champion."
During a match against Kane on the WWE's European tour, Rollins fell from the top rope of the ring and his knee buckled as he landed on the mat, which is how he sustained his injury, according to fan-shot footage obtained by NESN. Rollins continued through the match to defeat his opponent and had to be escorted from the ring.
Rollins was expected to defend his title against fellow WWE star Roman Reigns during the Survivor Series pay-per-view event on Nov. 22, according to the WWE. Details about the upcoming tournament to declare a new World Heavyweight Champion have not been finalized.
This is the fourth pro-wrestler to be removed recently from the WWE's main roster of performers, NESN reported. The companies' biggest star, John Cena, is on a hiatus until December, and headliners Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan are both out on injuries as well.
