One company in San Francisco is using tech and fun to get more girls involved and interested in tech, hopefully spurring more women into the tech industry, according to NPR. Preemadonna is a company that has been centered and focused on providing lifestyle products for girls and women.
One of its creations is called the Nailbot. It's a device where a person can connect their smartphone and have custom designs and colors printed directly onto their nails.
Some would see the invention as just another toy for young girls, but Pree Walia, the company's co-founder and CEO, said the invention is so much more.
"It is a beauty tool, but for young girls it's a learning tool," she says. "It's really a mobile platform for art with uses well beyond fingernails."
Walia went on to say that when girls, and possibly boys as well, see the product, they will want to know more about how it works, peeking their interest in technology. So far, the company has raised around $400,000 in investment money for the venture, with many asking if the Nailbot is simply another beauty fad.
The machine will sell for a retail price of $199, according to TechCrunch.
