Blake Shelton is entering a right of passage in his career - hosting the Kids' Choice Awards. Nickelodeon announced Monday that "The Voice" Coach and country singer has agreed to host the 2016's Kids' Choice Awards.
The 39-year-old country star made the announcement on NBC's "Today" show Monday, telling the host of morning show that his mission is to get slimmed.
"My agent called and was like, 'Is there anything you can think of that you'd want to do?'... And I actually had been thinking I want to host those Kids' Choice Awards, I want to do it," Shelton said. "And she was like, 'Uhhhh... Okay.' I wanna do this thing with kids. It's fun. I wanna get slimed."
Shelton follows in the footsteps of past celebrities who have hosted the show, including Nick Jonas, Mark Wahlberg, Will Smith and Justin Timberlake. Shelton was nominated for Favorite Male Artist in 2013 and 2015 and lost to Jonas and Justin Bieber, respectively.
"I've been on countless stages throughout my life, but none have promised the madness, excitement and endless slime as Nick's Kids' Choice Awards, which is undoubtedly the ultimate party for kids," Shelton said in a statement, according to People. "There is only one team here, and it's Team Kids' Choice so bring it on Nickelodeon!"
Shelton isn't new to the hosting business. He has co-hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards for the past five years with Reba McEntire from 2011 and 2012 and with Luke Bryan every year since then. The "Honey Bee" singer also hosted "Saturday Night Live" in January.
Shelton's new gig could be a good way to impress his new girlfriend Gwen Stefani, who has three children with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
The 2016 Kids' Choice Awards are set to air on March 12.
