Prince George Godparents: Kate Middleton, Prince William Break Tradition, Choose Non-Royals?

Kate Middleton and Prince William will be revealing baby Prince George's godparents soon. It's being reported that they will make the announcement before the royal baby's christening on Oct. 23. The Duke and Duchess have been breaking royal tradition when it comes to their baby and naming the godparents won't be any different.

According to the Daily Mail, the royal couple are doing things a little different by choosing non-royals as the baby's godparents. It's also being reported that Prince George will have six godparents in total. A source said that Middleton and Prince William wanted to pick people who they felt were trusted friends and would be able to provide Prince George with "stability and normality."

They didn't want to base their decision on royal titles but people who had stuck by them since school.

"They are rather unexpected off-the-wall choices for godparents - not the usual suspects of William's closest friends who we anticipated," a royal source said.

Among the list of possible godparents are Prince William's college friends Fergus Boyd, 31, and Hugh Van Cutsem, 39. The Duke is godfather to Cutsem's 5-year-old daughter Grace who was a flower girl at the royal wedding. Middleton's friend Emilia d'Erianger, 30, is rumored to be a godmother. She and the Duchess went to college together and is also a close friend of Prince William's.

D'Erianger owns an interior design company and is said to have helped the couple decorate their newly renovated apartment at Kenisington Palace. There is no word whether Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton will be godparents as well.

Traditionally the royal baby's godparents have royal connections. Prince William's godparents include Constantine II, the former King of Greece, and Princess Alexandra, a cousin of the Queen.
