New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will have surgery on Friday to repair a torn ligament in the thumb of his non-throwing hand, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. The Jets had a tough night on Thursday as they lost to the Buffalo Bills, 22-17, and also lost running back Zac Stacy to a fractured left ankle in the first half, according to Sports Illustrated.
The Jets starting quarterback expects to be back on the field for their next game on Nov. 22, against the Houston Texans. "We'll see how it goes, but that's the intention," said Fitzpatrick, via ESPN.
Fitzpatrick has played in two consecutive games since tearing his ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. He suffered the injury against the Oakland Raiders, but has worn a brace and a protective glove these past two games.
Fitzpatrick played for Houston last season and will want to get back on the field to face his former team. The Jets quarterback has 1,983 passing yards this season, and has thrown 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions. Although the Jets have fallen to 5-4 on the season, Fitzpatrick has filled in nicely as the Jets quarterback and his health will be a key factor if they want to make a run at the postseason.
While the Jets look to get Fitzpatrick back soon, Stacy suffered a serious injury after returning a kickoff on Thursday night. The Jets running back has been a solid role player for the team this season, and had rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown before the injury. Stacy is only in his third season in the NFL, and will look to get healthy and come back strong.
