The New England Patriots are reportedly hopeful that offensive tackle Marcus Cannon will be able to return to the field this week against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football, according to a tweet from Jason La Canfora which can be seen below.
The Patriots' offensive line this season has been decimated with injuries, but despite that, they have still gotten off to a 9-0 start this season. Cannon would be a huge addition for New England's offensive line, and the 6-foot-5, 363 pound offensive tackle has been out the past three games with a toe injury. The Patriots have already place offensive tackle Nate Solder on injured reserve, and Sebastian Vollmer was ruled out last week against the Giants with a concussion.
The return of Vollmer and Cannon could have a huge impact on this offensive line, as quarterback Tom Brady was clearly affected by the pressure the Giants brought on Sunday. Brady threw over 300 yards on Sunday but was sacked three times and threw an interception. The Patriots have a four-game lead in the AFC East, and with players like Cannon and Vollmer likely returning this week, New England looks to be only getting healthier going down the stretch.
The Patriots lost star wide receiver Julian Edelman with a broken foot this Sunday, and he will reportedly miss six to eight weeks. While the Patriots have lost Edelman for a while, they have reportedly signed tight end Joseph Fauria to their practice squad on Wednesday, according to Christopher Price of WEEI 93.7 FM. Fauria is not a replacement for Edelman, as it is almost impossible to replace a player of his talent, but Fauria can be a productive player for the New England's offense. Fauria had seven touchdown receptions for the Detroit Lions in 2013, he but will need to prove himself to make it onto the Patriots 53-man roster.
The Patriots face the Buffalo Bills this upcoming Monday and will want to separate themselves even further from the pack in the AFC East. The return of Vollmer and Cannon could be a huge lift for the Patriots and could help their ground game, as they only managed 77 rushing yards against New York this past weekend.
