Puppies joined the students and faculty this week at Simon Fraser University for some term-ending, stress busting, therapeutic relief, reports Van City Buzz. And just like puppies always do, they stepped up their game and busted their bums entertaining with their silliness as well as providing kisses, cuddles and hugs at every chance they could get.
The SFU Health and Counseling Services organized the puppy event with puppies provided by the Pacific Assistance Dog Society (PADS) and Trained Pups. PADS train puppies to become assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities and the deaf or hard-of-hearing, making the puppy event a win-win. The SFU students, faculty and staff get a much needed break, and the puppies from PADS get some training while meeting and greeting new people.
All three of the SFU campuses will be reaping the puppy benefits, with the schedule posted on SFU's website under the events calendar.
Other colleges are also pulling out the therapy pets as well. Students at Nottingham Trent University in the U.K. were treated earlier this year to a piglet room as part of stress busting efforts by the school during finals week, as previously reported by HNGN. The students brought in the destressing piglets, charging a nominal fee for entrance to the piglet room, and then donated the money to a non-profit.
Progressive thinking, adorable puppies and stressed students make the perfect storm for a creative and therapeutic end of the semester.
