iPad 5 Rumors: 10 Things You Need To Know Before Apple's Oct. 22 Event

Apple sent out invitations for a press event earlier this week where the company is expected to debut a lot of new things including the iPad. Rumors have been circulating for weeks about exactly what the brand has in store for customers. Below is a list of the top ten rumors of things expected to show up at the event, courtesy of Mashable.

1) iPad Mini Retina Display: Perhaps the biggest and most popular rumor surround the Apple event is whether or not the iPad mini 2 will include a "retina" display. Unfortunately this rumor doesn't lean on the side of likely. Many analysts indicate that supplies of such high-resolution displays might be too limited, meaning retina might not come to the iPad mini until sometime in early 2014.

2) Redesigned iPad: Apple's new full-sized tablet is rumored to take a page from the iPad mini and slim itself down a bit to make it sleeker and have a more elegant design. The design will make the device lighter and thinner with a smaller bezel than its predecessor.

3) Faster iPad: When Apple unveiled the iPhone 5S, the company also unveiled that it has the technology for a 64-bit A7 processing chip. That device is expected to make its way into the next generation of iPads. As for the iPad mini 2, this is a tossup as it might be too much for the smaller device, which currently runs the A5. There is a good chance it will upgrade to the A6X processor though.

4) Touch ID: Another feature that the new iPads will likely borrow from the iPhone 5S is the release of the exciting new security feature, the Touch ID biometric fingerprint scanner. It was one of the most discussed new features of the iPhone 5S so it would make sense for it to become a staple in new mobile device hardware. On the other hand, the company might also decide to keep it as an iPhone exclusive feature.

5) Colors: New leaked photos as well as a slew of rumors speculate that the new iPad 5 will sport the same "space gray," silver and "champagne" gold options found on the newest generation of iPhones.

6) New Smartcovers: With a new redesign of the iPad's body, it would only make sense for the company to roll out an update to the smartcover. As Mashable points out, the tagline on the invitations for the press event read "We still have a lot to cover." The company loves to hint at new innovations so it's possible that this was a bit of clever wordplay.

7) Better Camera: The iPad 5 is likely to get a camera upgrade with an 8-megapixel sensor as well as some other new features that were found with the iPhone update. The aperture is expected to get better as well, which would enhance the detail and produce less grainy images. It could also receive some new video features like slow-motion filming.

8) MacBook Pro Retina Upgrade: Apple will launch a new MacBook Pro line with retina display. The laptop line is overdue for an upgrade and rumors indicate that the new retina version will launch with an Intel Haswell processor. Other rumors put specs with a Thunderboly 2 port and even a 4K display. However, with such doubt on the iPad mini, many doubt that last one.

9) Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks Launch: The company unveiled the new Mac Pro and the new Mac OS at it's Worldwide Developer's Conference back in June. However it never gave a concrete release date for the products other than "fall." Many speculate the company will announce a Nov. 15 launch date.

10) Apple TV Upgrades: Apple has been taking steps to make its TV streaming setup more appealing over the past few months. The update is said to be an overhaul including hardware and software.
