A Tennessee man might face permanent paralysis after an e-cigarette exploded in his face, leaving him in critical condition with multiple injuries, according to the Daily Mail. Cordero Caples, a 29-year-old college student studying fitness in Colorado Springs, Colo., was using an e-cigarette during a break at work, when all of a sudden his e-cig exploded in his face. The accident knocked out at least one tooth, caused a fractured vertebrae and facial fractures, according to the Huffington Post.
His sister, Colessia Porter, has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical expenses as he recovers from the traumatic injury.
"It's going to be a long, intensive recovery process," Porter said.
His family members report that he is in a delicate predicament as "any sudden move can cause him to be in a paralyzed state."
Though to some, the manufacturer isn't to blame, as a smoke shop employee in Memphis declares that something about the e-cigarette looked off.
"This is way too powerful to power this," said Mary Grace Burns from VaporWize when she looked at a picture of Caples' e-cigarette device. "Way too hot of a battery. You can have a way-too-high amped battery in there or something like that could easily misfire and cause something like that. It's operator error though."
