Production has officially begun on "Doctor Strange" and Marvel has confirmed the cast of the Phase 3 film set to premiere next fall.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who will play the title character, was already spotted filming in Nepal early this month. Director Scott Derrickson will shoot the movie in various locations around the world including London, New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal.
"Doctor Strange" will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. The film will add a mystical element to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cumberbatch will star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton, rumored to be playing Strange's mentor, The Ancient One.
"Doctor Strange" is the second of nine films planned for Marvel's Phase 3, which will premiere over four years. The first movie on the slate is "Captain America: Civil War," scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
The Marvel comic character first appeared in "Strange Tales" Issue #110, published in July 1963. He is the seventh character (including the Guardians of the Galaxy) to get its own solo film in the MCU.
"Doctor Strange" will premiere on Nov. 4, 2016.
