Kate Middleton has become a fashion icon with her laid-back yet sophisticated style, the Duchess of Cambridge opting for often affordable, simple pieces that flatter a variety of shapes and sizes.
Now maternity fashion line (and Middleton favorite) Seraphine founder and designer, Cecile Reinaud, shares her pregnancy fashion tips for this fall.
"Accessories help to keep your fashion edge," Reinaud recently told UK Metro. "Quite a few women become less adventurous with colors; they just feel, 'Oh, I look big, I'm just going to put black on.' This is fine, but think about adding some color with tights, a scarf, a nice cardigan. That will make you feel a lot more fashion-forward and glow a little bit more."
According to Hollywood Life, Reinaud also recommends layering, adding chic blazers and swing coats to give a more dressed-down look a sophisticated twist.
"When you're pregnant, your body temperature fluctuates quite a lot, so you can feel hot one minute and then cold," she advised. "So layering has a function, and it can create an interesting silhouette. You can create more asymmetrical looks with the layers, which is very flattering to the pregnant figure."
Some of Kate Middleton's most beloved maternity looks include her Dalmation-print coat ($260) that she wore at the christening of the Royal Princess ship on June 13 along with a Sylvia Fletcher bespoke hat, her pale pink Jenny Packham lace dress and matching silk jacket she wore to Queen Elizabeth's coronation with a matching pink hat ($1,200), and a peach Tara Jamson coat over a soft pink dress paired with nude heels by L.K. Bennett.
The Duchess is fond of pairing nude and black heels when wearing bolder prints, though she's also content to keep things comfy in a pair of fashionable flats, like the ones she wore at her first post-pregnancy public appearance in North Anglesey, Wales at the Ultra Marathon.
Polka dots, pastels, tights, boots beaded hats and pretty patterns are all favorites of the Duchess, who also likes to kick back in a pair of fitted jeans matched with a flowy blouse and blazer or a tailored long coat.
