The New Orleans police revealed Friday at a press conference that they have identified and are on the hunt for a suspect connected to the mass shooting at Bunny Friend Park last week that left 17 people injured after a man fired into a crowd of roughly 500.
Police said that the suspect they are looking for is 32-year-old Joseph "Moe" Allen, marking the first suspect related to the incident to be identified, according to The Times-Picayune.
It's not clear how police were able to ID Allen, since they admit they have no pictures or video, and no one has provided testimony about the shooters.
"We need videos. We need photos. We need people to come forward," police Superintendent Michael Harrison said.
As the investigation continues, Mayor Mitch Landrieu called on Allen to turn himself in, the Associated Press reported.
"It would be much better for you to turn yourself in, because we're going to find you," he said.
Landrieu also called on the community for help, while warning them that they'll be prosecuted if they help Allen.
If you want this community to be safe, everybody's got to participate," he continued, according to CBS' New Orleans WWL-TV. "If anybody harbors this guy or anybody else that was involved in this, you're going to be brought to justice as well."
Harrison also provided an update on the victims' condition during the conference, revealing that all but one or two of them were in "fair to good condition," and none of them suffered life-threatening wounds.
Allen, who is a convicted felon with a rap sheet dating back to 2002, will face 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder once he is apprehended.
