Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for Marvel's "Spider-Man."
One reason shared cinematic universes are so popular is because they allow for a lot of crossover between your favorite characters. This is what makes the "Avengers" series and "Captain America: Civil War" possible and it explains why Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will be showing up in "Thor: Ragnarok." Movie-goers love to see their favorite characters interact with one another, especially in the MCU. That trend may continue with the solo "Spider-Man" film scheduled for 2017.
Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) recently appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to unveil the first trailer for "Civil War." During their time on Kimmel's couch, the duo joked about the sweltering heat they experienced while shooting in Atlanta on the new Pinewood facility. Downey then said to Evans:
"By the way, we are going to shoot in Atlanta again, you and I."
At first, fans brushed this off as an obvious mention to the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" films. But since those two movies won't hit theaters for a few years, it doesn't make much sense for the two actors to already be preparing. What else does that leave?
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" won't crossover with the Avengers just yet, according to writer/director James Gunn. "Doctor Strange" is filming mostly in London. "Thor: Ragnarok" just confirmed Australia as its primary shooting locations. That leaves MCU newcomer Tom Holland who previously said that "Spider-Man" will be filming in Georgia. Curious, no?
This isn't the first hint we've gotten that Spider-Man could be joined by a heavy MCU hitter. Tony Stark has been rumored to be a part of the web-head's solo adventure for some time now, but Steve Rodgers is a new addition. It's been whispered that Tony will help Peter Parker develop a better superhero site as his "Civil War" outfit will be a homegrown version. But if Rogers shows up, that pretty much guarantees his safety in "Civil War."
Regardless of who ends up joining Spider-Man, the film will be highly anticipated. The wall-crawler is arguably Marvel's most popular character and fans are beyond excited for him to finally join the MCU.
"Spider-Man" is scheduled for a July 2017 release.
