Prince George Christening: Kate Middleton, Prince William Reveal Royal Baby’s Godparents; Pippa, Prince Harry Not Picked

Kate Middleton and Prince William have finally revealed who will be Prince George's godparents. Kensington Palace released the seven names the same day as the baby's christening and shockingly Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry did not make the cut.

The official godparents for the royal baby are:

Zara Phillips, 32. She is the only member of the royal family to be a godparent and is Prince William's cousin and the Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter. Phillips is expecting her first child with husband Mike Tindall.

Oliver Baker, 31. Baker is friends with Middleton and Prince William from the University of St. Andrews.

Emilia d'Erlanger, 31. She went to Marlborough College with Middleton and is now an interior designer. D'Erlanger helped the new parents decorate their newly renovated apartment at Kensington Palace.

Hugh, Earl Grosvenor, 22. Grosvenor is the son of the Duke of Westminster.

Jamie Lowther-Ponkerton, 52. He served as private secretary to the royal couple and Prince Harry for seven years, from 2005 to 2012. Ponkerton still works part-time as a principal private secretary and equerry. His young son, William, was in the royal wedding.

Julia Samuel, 54. Samuel is a close friend of the late Princess Diana.

William van Cutsem, 34. Also goes by the name Hugh and is Prince William's childhood friend. The Duke is godfather to Cutsem's daughter Grace, who was a flower girl in the royal wedding.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince William and Middleton broke tradition by choosing non-royals as Prince George's godparents. A source told the newspaper that they wanted to pick people they felt has stuck by them and would be able to provide the baby with "stability and normality."

"They are rather unexpected off-the-wall choices for godparents - not the usual suspects of William's closest friends who we anticipated," a royal source said.

The couple also broke tradition by naming seven godparents, typically six people are chosen.

Prince George will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby on Oct. 23 and all of the chosen godparents are expected to be in attendance.
