The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus has issued an "All clear" Wednesday morning after unconfirmed reports of an armed person on or nearby campus grounds were proved to be not credible.
The incident began earlier this morning when the university activated its sirens in response to a police report of an armed person near the campus' Army ROTC center and a chemistry building, according to CBS' Virgina affiliate WTVR-TV.
Authorities were quick to respond to the threat, and many witnesses reported seeing police in the area with their weapons drawn.
As the search unfolded, the school went into lockdown, temporarily suspended classes and urging all faculty, staff and students to remain indoors, while also instructing them to stay away from windows, according to CNN.
The search lasted for about 30 minutes, and after determining that there was no threat, the school issued an all-clear notice and all normal campus activities resumed.
