Former Georgia head coach Mark Richt will reportedly become the Miami Hurricanes next head coach, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy and Mark Schlabach.
Richt resigned as the head coach of the Bulldogs this past Sunday, and was a hot coaching commodity as he was reportedly expected to interview at Virginia as well as other programs. Richt finished the 2015 season with a 9-3 record in SEC, and finished tied for second place in the West division with a 5-3 conference record.
In 15 seasons as the Bulldogs head coach Richt posted a career record of 145-51 in arguably the best conference in college football. Richt led the Bulldogs to five SEC Championship games, but had not won the SEC title since 2005. Georgia is reportedly expected to hire Alabama's defensive coordinator Kirby Smart as their next head coach.
The Hurricanes finished in third place in the ACC Coastal division, and could be a team heading up in the conference next season. Miami fired head coach Al Golden after the school took their worst loss in their program's history to Clemson. The Hurricanes finished strong with a 4-1 record under interim head coach Larry Scott, and are bowl eligible with an 8-4 record on the season.
Richt will have tough competition recruiting top talent in Florida with programs like Florida State, and the Florida Gators, but he has shown that he can pull in top-tier recruits while coaching for Georgia. The Hurricanes will likely have sophomore quarterback Brad Kaaya returning next season, and Richt will have a talented team in his first year as Miami's head coach.
