When Lisa Sarber Aldrich posted the photo of her sister Mandy's birthday cake, from Meijer grocery store in Gaines, Mich., along with the accompanying story over the weekend, it instantly went viral, according to the Examiner. Aldrich picked up the cake at Meijer's as planned, and asked the bakery employee if she would write the birthday wish on the cake to personalize her sister's cake.
Once she received the decorated cake back, she smiled, thanked the "bakery-looking-employee" and went to pay for the cake. But when she peeked in to check out the finished product, she was aback by the decorating ability shown, but still smiled and decided to keep the cake anyway.
At the checkout, the cashier summoned the manager, stating that the employee who decorated the cake has autism and is not supposed to write on the cakes.
"To my surprise, after they discussed it, one cashier put her arm on my shoulder and said 'the girl who wrote that has autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her - even though she's not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day,'" Aldrich wrote on her Facebook page, along with a picture of the cake, according to Breitbart. "So I guess the moral of the story is that kindness is important!"
Meijer now has new fans in the social media friends of Aldrich, several who asked for the girl's name who decorated the cake so they could also start getting their cakes there as well.
"We are proud to have a great team, which includes people with disabilities," said a Meijer's spokesman, according to the Inquisitr. "This team member was trying to provide great customer service, and our customer was very kind in the way she handled the situation."
The cake was delicious and Lisa enjoyed even enjoyed it for breakfast, until the last piece was gone.
