Nick Cannon: RadioShack Hires TV Star As Chief Creative Officer (VIDEO)

Troubled company RadioShack announced Wednesday that it has hired "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon as their Chief Creative Officer (COO).

"Nick will play an active role in the creative process and his innovation and creativity will continue to help us curate the in-store experience. He'll also be developing an exclusive line of products, as well as help RadioShack continue to grow our educational and S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives nationwide," RadioShack's Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Tateman, said in a press release.

The electronics chain filed for bankruptcy in February and announced that Standard General's General Wireless would buy 1,500 stores out of its total 2,400 outlets, as HNGN previously reported. General Wireless now has more than 1,700 company-owned stories and close to 500 independent dealerships.

Cannon, who will work from the company's Fort Worth, Texas headquarters, expressed his excitement over his new position. "As a kid, spending time in my neighborhood RadioShack was invaluable," Cannon said, according to CNN Money. "The maker mentality and educational approach taught me a lot and encouraged me to explore my own creativity. In return I wanted to give back by fostering creative pursuits in others, and helping kids move to the next level."

Cannon, who stars in Spike Lee's "Chi-Raq," has already taken over his duties as COO, sharing a video on Twitter of his visit to the St. Mary's Children Hospital in New York, where he met patients and discussed creativity and knowledge with them using RadioShack products, according to The Huffington Post.
