Chennai Floods: Indian Actors Help With Relief Efforts, Donations

The Chennai floods, the worst in a century, have seen several parts of the city submerged and cut off from essential supplies. The natural calamity has not spared anyone, rich or poor. "To describe the situation as calamitous would be an understatement. If this can happen in Chennai can you imagine the plight of the rest of Tamil Nadu?" Kamal Hassan told Firstpost.

The near-calamitous situation saw actors from across India join the relief operations. Actors Siddharth and RJ Balaji spearheaded the efforts and created the hashtag #ChennaiMicro to help coordinate the operations.

Meanwhile, leading actors from the South Indian film industry donated money to help the cause. Superstar Rajinikanth, along with Suriya, Dhanush, Vishal, Karthi donated Rs 50 lakhs. Junior NTR pledged Rs 10 lakhs to help the victims of the floods, reported The Times of India.

Rajnikanth and Vijay's Shobha marriage halls accommodated people in need for shelter. All inmates were given warm meals during their stay, reported India Today.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan also joined the prayers for Chennai on Twitter.
