Salman Khan Hit-And-Run Case: Supreme Court Refuses To Cancel Bail

The Supreme Court rejected on Friday a plea by Sushila Himmatrao Patil, the mother of Ravinder Patil, a police constable who was Salman Khan's bodyguard during the 2002 hit-and-run case, to cancel Khan's bail.

"The order of Bombay High Court does not require interference," said a bench comprising justices FMI Kalifulla and Amitava Roy, according to The Indian Express.

Khan had been convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and several other offences, and he was sentenced to five years in jail on May 6. He was granted bail by the Bombay High Court the same day he was convicted and sentenced by the session's court, reported The Huffington Post.

The prosecution has stated that Khan's white Toyota Land Cruiser ran over men sleeping on a pavement in suburban Bandra on Sept. 28, 2002, leaving one person dead and four injured. Khan's appeal against conviction is being heard by Justice A R Joshi of the Bombay High Court, reported India Today.
