Chennai, India has decided to start recovering from the disaster that the heavy rains and floods have brought to the city from the past several days, which has caused 450 deaths as of Saturday, according to Bloomberg.
Commercial flights have restarted their operations after all flights were cancelled since Wednesday. Air India has successfully flown its first flight since the incident; the route was from Chennai to Port Blair. Another flight from Delhi will land at Chennai at around 1:30 p.m., The Indian Express reported.
While daytime operations have resumed, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will decide on night operations on Sunday, according to India's Press Information Bureau website. The city is now focusing on relief operations.
"We have stopped rescue operations and are focusing only on relief operations. There have been some rains since Saturday night, but that's not affecting relief work," said S.S. Guleria, deputy inspector general of operations at the National Disaster Response Force, Bloomberg reported.
Flood waters are reportedly receding, and at least 90 percent of the city has regained its power supply.
The Prime Minister has extended help through an additional Rs 1000 crore (about $150 million) in cash donations to the state, while some celebrities gave cash to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, according to First Post.
