Pop star Taylor Swift has donated $50,000 to the Seattle Symphony Orchestra after she was inspired by a performance of "Become Ocean" by John Luther Adams in 2013 at the Grammys, the symphony announced Thursday.
The singer's donation will go to two programs of the symphony: Link Up, a music-education program for elementary school students that has a $60,000 annual budget, and the pension fund of its musicians, The Seattle Times reported.
"I was thrilled to hear that Taylor was moved by 'Become Ocean,'" Ludovic Morlot said in a statement, King 5 reported. "This is a powerful piece with a unique soundscape."
Morlot also revealed that, along with the donation, Swift wrote a letter saying that the composition commissioned by the symphony reminded her of going to her local symphony with her grandmother when she was younger.
"We're especially thankful that she wishes to support our musicians, and that she shares our belief that all people should be able to experience symphonic music," said Morlot.
The $50,000 donation to the symphony is one of many charitable donations that the singer-songwriter has made this year. She recently gave a lump of cash to her backing dancer's 13-month-old nephew who is battling cancer. She also gave the public schools of New York City a check worth $50,000 in February, according to E! Online.
