A woman who was undergoing an exorcism was found dead in a German hotel room, prosecutors have alleged. The 41-year-old was allegedly beaten to death during the process, which took place over the weekend in Frankfurt, according to News 24.
The woman's body showed signs of blows to the chest and stomach, said officials. They also allege that a towel was used to muffle her screams. Her cause of death was suffocation.
Five South Korean nationals have been arrested in the case, including a 44-year-old woman, her 21-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter, along with two 15-year-old boys, one of whom was the victim's son, reported the Guardian. Lawyers accused them of attempting the exorcism on the deceased. It is not clear whether the deceased gave consent to the exorcism.
The religion of the family is unknown, but officials claim they arrived in Germany about six weeks ago, according to the Guardian.
Police believe there was a second victim, found in a garage of a rented house north of Frankfurt, according to Deutsche Welle.
