Salman Khan Acquitted In Drunk-Driving And Hit-And-Run Case, Bollywood Celebrates (TWEETS)

Bombay High Court on Thursday acquitted Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in a 2002 drunk-driving and hit-and-run case.

"The prosecution failed to establish its case on all charges beyond reasonable doubt," Justice Anil Ramchandra Joshi pronounced, according to The Times of India.

"In summing up on broader aspects as to driving and drunkenness prosecution has not brought material on record which spells out case against accused," the judge said.

The "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" actor was convicted in May by a trial court. The lower court had earlier sentenced him to five years in prison for driving over and killing a homeless man sleeping on a pavement, according to BBC News.

The high court also slammed the prosecution, saying that the investigation was conducted in a faulty manner.

"The investigation was conducted in a faulty manner with many loose ends and as such benefit of this had to be given in favour of the accused," the court ruled, according to NDTV.

While Bollywood stars and Khan's fans welcomed his acquittal, many others questioned the judgement. Check out some of the reactions on Twitter below.
